From the UN Road Safety Resolution to the World Road Association's Action

It is known worldwide that according to UN estimates, road accidents result in 1.25 million fatalities per year and up to 50 million injured people all over the world. Over 90% of deaths are registered in low and middle-income countries. The awareness about this kind of problem led Member States represented in the United Nations General Assembly to opt for a Decade of Action for road safety (2011-2020), the declared aim of which is stabilizing and then reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries at a global level.
